New Patient First Visit

New Patient First Visit

We know first visits can feel unfamiliar

Starting with a new dental practice involves a certain amount of the unknown — new faces, a new environment, and the task of explaining your dental history to a clinical team who does not know you yet. At Pennington Dental in Stratford-upon-Avon and Kenilworth, we work hard to make every new patient feel welcomed and at ease from the moment they arrive.

Here is exactly what to expect at your first appointment with us.

Before your appointment

Our new patient examination offer, including two X-rays, is available for £50. We will confirm this at booking along with any details we need in advance. If you have any existing dental records, X-rays, or information about previous dental treatment, please do try and email them to us at Kenilworth@Penningtondental.co.uk or Stratford@@Penningtondental.co.uk ahead of your first appointment. These records are incredibly helpful and also avoid us re taking X-rays which is always a good thing. They help us build a more complete picture of your dental history quickly.

If you are nervous about attending the dentist, please mention this when you book. We will ensure your appointment is with one of our dentists who is experienced at working with anxious patients, and we will make sure you feel informed and in control at every step.

Your examination

Your new patient examination is thorough and unhurried. We examine your teeth, gums, bite, and the soft tissues of your mouth — including the tongue, lips, and cheeks — as part of routine oral cancer screening. We take two X-rays to give us a view of the areas between teeth and below the gum line that cannot be seen during a visual examination.

We check your gum health, noting any signs of inflammation, recession, or periodontal pocketing. We record the condition of each tooth — any decay, existing restorations, cracks, or wear. We assess your bite and look for signs of grinding or clenching (bruxism), which many patients are unaware of.

Your treatment plan

At the end of your examination, we take the time to explain what we have found in plain language. If there are any areas of concern, we explain them clearly , what they are, why they matter, and what the options are. Nothing is rushed, and you are encouraged to ask as many questions as you need. We will show you your X-ray images and explain what we find.

We provide a written treatment plan setting out any recommended treatments, their costs, and the order in which we would suggest addressing them. This is yours to take away, read at home, and discuss with us further before committing to anything. We respect your right to make informed decisions about your own care, and we never pressurise patients into treatment they are not comfortable with.

Cosmetic and elective treatments

If you are interested in cosmetic treatments — teeth whitening, composite bonding, Invisalign, dental implants — your first examination gives us the information we need to advise you on what is appropriate for your situation. For more involved treatments such as Invisalign or implants, a free separate consultation is a good next step. Your dentist will guide you on the best approach.

Book your new patient appointment
