Prevention first: early decay, treated without a drill

At Pennington Dental, prevention comes first. We look for decay early at your check-ups, with X-rays read with the support of AI software, so changes can often be spotted before a cavity forms.

For some early decay that has not yet formed a cavity, we can now offer Curodont: a drill-free treatment that helps the tooth rebuild early enamel decay using minerals from your own saliva. Your dentist will tell you at your examination whether it is suitable for you, and as with any treatment, results cannot be guaranteed.

Curodont: The facts

EARLY DECAY

Treating decay early

Curodont Repair is used on early decay that has not yet formed a hole (cavity). Your dentist will decide at your examination whether it is suitable for you.

DRILL-FREE

No drilling or injections

Curodont Repair is a liquid applied to the surface of the tooth, so the treatment itself needs no drilling or injections.

HOW IT WORKS

Using minerals from your saliva

Curodont Repair contains a peptide that moves into the early lesion and forms a framework that attracts calcium and phosphate from your saliva, helping new mineral to form within the enamel.

QUICK TO APPLY

Done during your appointment

Applying Curodont Repair takes a few minutes. It is tasteless and does not stain your teeth.

Who is Curodont suitable for?

During a dental check-up, your dentist may find early decay that has not yet formed a cavity. Curodont Repair is designed for these early, non-cavitated lesions in the enamel. If decay has progressed further, a dental filling or other treatment may be needed instead. Your dentist will decide at your examination whether Curodont is suitable for you.

Curodont is provided by our dentists at both our Kenilworth and Stratford-upon-Avon practices.

AI-supported X-ray reading can help us spot early decay (outlined in yellow) in the outer enamel, before it reaches the dentine underneath. Image shown with patient details removed.

What does Curodont treatment involve?

Curodont Repair is a liquid applied to the surface of the tooth, so no drilling or injections are needed for the treatment.

Your dentist will clean the tooth and prepare the surface, then apply Curodont Repair to the early lesion. Applying it takes a few minutes.

The peptide in Curodont Repair moves into the lesion and forms a framework that attracts calcium and phosphate from your saliva, helping new mineral to form within the enamel.

Afterwards, you should not eat, drink or rinse for 30 minutes. We will check the area at your future check-ups.

Will Curodont mean I never need a filling?

No treatment can be guaranteed. Curodont is used to help stop early decay from progressing, but results vary and it may not avoid the need for a filling in every case. Good brushing, a healthy diet and regular check-ups are still needed to look after your teeth.

To find out whether Curodont is suitable for you, book an appointment online or call Kenilworth on 01926 863236 or Stratford-upon-Avon on 01789 205254.
