Finding an NHS dentist can be difficult. At Pennington Dental we treat both NHS and private patients at our Kenilworth and Stratford-upon-Avon practices. NHS availability changes from time to time, so please call us to check whether we currently have NHS spaces before you book.

Do I need to live nearby?

Dentists do not have catchment areas in the way that GP surgeries do. You do not need to register with a dentist in the same way as a doctor, and you can look for NHS dental care at any practice that is convenient for you, whether that is near your home or your work.

What does NHS dental treatment cost?

NHS dental treatment in England is charged in three standard bands, so you know the cost before treatment starts. The charges from 1 April 2026 are:

• Band 1: £27.90. This covers an examination, diagnosis (for example X-rays), advice on preventing future problems, a scale and polish if needed, and fluoride varnish or fissure sealant. Urgent care is also charged at Band 1, even if it needs more than one appointment.
• Band 2: £76.60. This covers everything in Band 1, plus further treatment such as fillings, root canal work or removing teeth.
• Band 3: £332.10. This covers everything in Bands 1 and 2, plus crowns, dentures and bridges.

Some people do not pay NHS dental charges, including children under 18. You can find out whether you are eligible for free NHS dental care on the NHS website. You can also see these charges on our treatment costs page.

Children

We recommend that children start visiting the dentist as soon as their first teeth come through. Early visits help them get used to the surgery and let us keep an eye on their teeth as they grow. Read more in our guide to children's dental health.

NHS or private?

Some patients choose private care, or spread the cost of private preventive care with our membership plan. Others prefer NHS care. Our team can explain the options so you can choose what suits you.
