If you have been researching clear aligner treatment, you may have come across both Invisalign and Angel Aligner. Both are high-quality systems that use a series of custom-made, removable clear aligners to move teeth gradually into their correct positions. Both are excellent alternatives to fixed braces for suitable cases. But they are not identical, and understanding the differences will help you have a more informed conversation with your dentist at your consultation.
Invisalign is the original and best-known clear aligner brand, having been established in 1997 and now with millions of cases treated globally. The system is well-researched, with extensive clinical data supporting its outcomes across a wide range of orthodontic cases. Invisalign aligners are made from SmartTrack material — a proprietary thermoplastic developed specifically for Invisalign — and are produced by Align Technology in the United States.
The Invisalign digital workflow, including the iTero scanner and ClinCheck planning software, is among the most sophisticated in the industry. Treatment planning precision is very high, and the system has extensive capability for complex tooth movements using attachments (small tooth-coloured bumps bonded to specific teeth to aid more demanding movements).
Angel Aligner is a premium clear aligner system that has grown rapidly in the UK market in recent years. Like Invisalign, it uses custom-manufactured thermoplastic aligners based on digital scans of the patient's teeth. Angel Aligner uses a high-clarity BPA-free material and the manufacturing process is ISO-certified to high clinical standards.
One area where Angel Aligner is particularly noted is patient comfort. The material profile tends to feel smooth against the soft tissues of the mouth, and many patients report a comfortable adaptation period. Angel Aligner's clinical planning team work closely with treating dentists to map tooth movements with precision.
Both systems produce genuinely good results for mild to moderate orthodontic cases when planned and monitored properly. The key variables that should drive your choice are: the complexity of your specific case, the experience of your treating dentist with each system, and cost.
Invisalign has the longer evidence base and broader clinical literature, which may be relevant for more complex cases. Angel Aligner is a strong option for straightforward to moderate cases and is typically positioned at an accessible price point.
Neither system is inherently superior — the most important factor is working with a dentist experienced in aligner treatment planning, who can choose the system most appropriate for your specific tooth movements and deliver the oversight your treatment requires.
At Pennington Dental, we offer both Invisalign and Angel Aligner across our Stratford-upon-Avon and Kenilworth practices. Treatment begins with a digital 3D oral health scan, no physical impressions, producing a precise 3D model from which your aligners are fabricated and your treatment is planned. Attachments are placed where clinically needed to assist specific tooth movements.
Both our Silver and Gold packages include three removable retainers, a full course of Boutique teeth whitening, remote monitoring between appointments, and all clinical appointments. Finance is available through Tabeo. We will recommend the system best suited to your case after a thorough assessment at your free consultation.
