Losing a tooth , whether through decay, gum disease, trauma, or extraction. has consequences that go beyond the gap in your smile. Adjacent teeth shift over time, biting forces are redistributed, the jawbone beneath the missing tooth begins to resorb (shrink), and for many patients, confidence takes a significant hit. Dental implants are the only tooth replacement option that addresses all of these issues simultaneously.
At Pennington Dental in Stratford-upon-Avon, dental implant treatment starts at £3,000 for a single tooth. This guide explains everything you need to know before booking your free consultation.
A dental implant is a small titanium post that is placed into the jawbone where a tooth root once was. Titanium has a unique property called osseointegration — it bonds directly with living bone tissue over a period of several months, creating an anchor as strong as a natural tooth root. Once integrated, a ceramic crown is attached to the implant, creating a restored tooth that looks, feels, and functions like the natural tooth it replaces.
The three components of an implant-supported tooth are: the implant fixture (the titanium post in the bone), the abutment (the connecting piece), and the crown (the visible tooth). The crown is made from high-quality ceramic matched to the shade of your surrounding teeth, so the result is virtually indistinguishable from a natural tooth.
The alternatives to dental implants for replacing missing teeth are bridges and dentures. Each has its place, but implants offer several advantages that the alternatives cannot match.
A bridge requires the two adjacent teeth to be ground down to serve as supporting pillars. These teeth must be healthy enough for this, and the procedure is irreversible, you permanently alter two healthy teeth to replace one missing one. Bridges also do not address the bone resorption that occurs beneath a missing tooth.
Dentures, particularly partial dentures, can become loose over time as the jawbone changes shape beneath them. They require adhesive, may affect speech and chewing confidence, and many patients find them psychologically difficult to adapt to.
Implants preserve bone volume, do not involve altering adjacent teeth, feel entirely natural in the mouth, and function with the same biting force as a natural tooth. With proper care, they are expected to last 15 to 20 years, many last considerably longer.
Treatment begins with a comprehensive assessment including a CBCT cone beam scan. From May 2026, we have CBCT scanning available in-house at our Stratford-upon-Avon practice. meaning the detailed 3D imaging needed to assess your bone volume, density, and anatomy is done here, without the need for an external referral. This scan is essential for planning accurate, safe implant placement and for fabricating any surgical guides used during the procedure.
We use Straumann implants — a Swiss-engineered system consistently regarded as one of the gold standards in implant dentistry, with one of the strongest long-term evidence bases in the field. Straumann's SLActive surface technology accelerates osseointegration, the process by which the implant bonds with your bone, which can shorten the healing phase for suitable patients.
The placement procedure is carried out under local anaesthetic and is typically more comfortable than patients anticipate. Once placed, a healing period of three to six months allows osseointegration to occur. During this time you will have a temporary restoration. Once integration is confirmed, your permanent ceramic crown is attached — matched precisely to your surrounding teeth in shade, shape, and size.
Finance is available through Tabeo, allowing you to spread the cost of treatment. Single implant treatment starts at £3,000.
Single dental implant treatment at Pennington Dental starts at £3,000, which includes the implant, abutment, and crown. The total cost for more complex cases, multiple implants, bone grafting where required, or full-arch solutions, will be higher and is discussed in detail at your consultation. Finance options are available to spread the cost over time.
