A veneer is a thin porcelain shell bonded over a front tooth to change its shape, shade or position. At our Kenilworth practice each one is shade-matched to the teeth either side, so the result looks like your own rather than a set.
"An amazing dentist. Twice have come to our aid when faced with out of hours emergencies with our children. Nothing was too much trouble and they showed genuine compassion for the situation which was invaluable to us. Thankyou"
You sit down with our treatment coordinator away from the surgery and talk through what you would change. Photographs help. So does saying what you do not want, because "too white" and "too big" are the two regrets people mention most.
Dr Fuz examines your teeth and gums and tells you whether veneers are the right answer. If your teeth are healthy but out of position, aligners may give you a better result without touching the enamel. He will say so.
If you want to go ahead, our treatment coordinator books you in and gives you the full cost in writing. Nothing is ordered until you have had time to think about it.
We remove a small amount of enamel from the front of each tooth so the veneer sits flush rather than proud. Impressions go to our dental lab, and you leave the same day wearing temporary veneers, so you are never without front teeth.
Your permanent veneers come back from the lab, and we try them in before anything is bonded. This is your chance to change the shape or the shade. When you are happy, and only then, we fit them permanently.
A veneer is a thin shell of porcelain bonded to the front of a tooth. Think of it as a new outer surface rather than a cap. It covers what is underneath, so a tooth that is chipped, worn, oddly shaped, badly stained or slightly out of line can be made to match its neighbours.
We use veneers to make a smile look straighter, to mask broken or chipped teeth, to change the shape of a tooth, and to lift the shade of teeth that will not respond to whitening.
We use veneers to:
Most people have between four and eight done, because the front teeth need to match each other. A single veneer on one tooth is possible, and we do it, but matching one new porcelain surface to seven natural ones is the harder job, not the easier one.

This is the part other practices leave out. Fitting veneers means removing a small amount of enamel, and enamel does not grow back. We take the least we can, but the treatment is irreversible. Once your teeth are prepared, they will always need veneers or crowns on them.
That is not a reason to avoid the treatment. It is a reason to be sure. So the consultation is free; it lasts as long as it needs to, and nobody will push you towards a decision on the day.
If you are not sure, there are two treatments that change less. Composite bonding adds resin to the tooth without removing anything and costs less per tooth, though it lasts around five years rather than fifteen. Clear aligners move the teeth you already have and leave the surface untouched. We will talk through all three at your free consultation, including the ones that earn us less.
One sequencing point. Porcelain does not respond to whitening gel. If you want a lighter smile overall, have teeth whitening first, let the shade settle, and then we match your veneers to it.
We are at 37 High Street in old Kenilworth, close to Abbey Fields, behind a royal blue front door. The station is under a mile away, the 16, X16 and 24 buses stop nearby, and there is on-street parking close to the building.
Veneers take two appointments rather than one, with lab time in between, so it is worth knowing the practicalities before you book. Both visits are longer than a check-up. You leave the first one in temporary veneers, which look fine for work and photographs but need a little care with hard food. We are open 8:30 to 17:30 Monday to Friday and on select Saturdays throughout the year (please call to check), which helps if you are commuting into Coventry, Warwick or Birmingham.
We also see patients from Warwick, Leamington Spa, Balsall Common and the villages around Kenilworth. If you are working towards a wedding or a milestone birthday, tell us the date at your consultation. Between preparation, lab time and fitting, veneers need planning weeks ahead rather than days, and whitening beforehand adds more time again.
Porcelain is strong and resists staining, so with good care you should get 15 to 20 years before replacements are needed. They can chip, and if one does, we will repair or replace that single veneer rather than the whole set.
No. A small amount of enamel is removed so the veneer sits flat against the tooth, and enamel does not grow back. Your teeth will need veneers or crowns from that point on. We would rather you knew that at the consultation than afterwards.
The same way as natural teeth. Brush twice a day for two minutes with a fluoride toothpaste, floss daily, and keep up your check-ups and hygiene appointments.
Send us your details and we will contact you to arrange a date and time for your appointment
