2 weeks of at-home whitening
Start with a relaxed chat away from the dental chair. Tell us what you would like to change about your smile, and ask anything you want to know about whitening.
Your dentist then examines your teeth and gums in the surgery. Whitening only goes ahead once your mouth is healthy, and we take photos to record your starting shade.
Happy to go ahead? We take impressions of your teeth and send them to our dental lab, where your whitening trays are made. Our team then books your next visit here in Kenilworth.
About two weeks later, you come back to collect your trays and gel. We show you how much gel to use and how long to wear your trays, so you feel confident doing it at home.
After two weeks of whitening, we check your shade against the photos from your first visit. Your dentist will tell you if a little longer at home would help.
Teeth pick up stains over the years from tea, coffee, red wine and smoking, and they naturally darken with age. Whitening brightens the colour you see, while the shape and size of each tooth stay as they are.
It only works on natural teeth. Crowns and bonding stay the shade they were made in. If your teeth end up lighter, some older work may need replacing so everything matches. If you also have chips, gaps or uneven edges, whitening is often the first step.
We can then match composite bonding or porcelain veneers to your new shade. You can see how these treatments work together on our cosmetic dentistry page.
Your trays are made from impressions of your own teeth, so they fit closely. At your collection visit, your dentist shows you how much gel to add and how to put the trays in. If your gums need some care first, we may suggest a visit to our hygienist before you begin.
You can wear your trays overnight for four to six hours or for 90 minutes in the day. Avoid eating or drinking while they are in.
Most people notice their teeth getting lighter within a few days and reach the shade they want after about 14 days of steady use. Some teeth take longer, which is normal. Your review appointment lets your dentist advise whether to carry on.
After that, many of our patients keep their shade fresh with a single syringe of gel every six months.
Home whitening at our Kenilworth practice is £299 until 31 December 2026. Your consultation is free, and your written plan shows the full price before you commit.
Sensitivity is a common side effect of whitening. The Boutique Whitening gel contains desensitisers to help reduce it. If your teeth feel uncomfortable at any point, let us know, and your dentist will advise you.
It depends on your habits. Tea, coffee, red wine and smoking bring stains back sooner. Your dentist can give you an idea at your consultation, and a top-up every six months helps keep your shade.
Send us your details and we will contact you to arrange a date and time for your appointment
